We can say that July 8th 2020, is a historic day when hydrogen, and officially through the EU hydrogen strategy, was declared one of the key solutions for a successful energy transition in the EU, all with the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050. The European Hydrogen Strategy is not officially a binding document but represents the EU’s vision of hydrogen as a sustainable solution to achieve a climate-neutral Europe by decarbonizing different sectors, in the short term (2024-2030) and long term (2031-2050).
It is necessary to plan the production of hydrogen and domestically produced equipment, and not only imported, which would start the domestic production of low-power equipment and thus increase employment.
Green hydrogen will play a key role in balancing a renewable energy-based power system by providing flexibility. Green hydrogen is hydrogen produced by the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources (solar energy, wind energy). Hydrogen will also be used for daily or seasonal storage, as a reserve, and as a buffer, thus increasing the security of supply in the medium term.
